Firefox
Most of us use Internet Explorer as the de-facto Web browser, maybe because it is preloaded with Windows. But there are other Web browsers that are more user-friendly and offer more features. One of them is Firefox. It is free and available for a variety of operating systems such as Windows, Mac, and Linux.

The beauty of Firefox is its ease of customization. With loads of themes and extensions you can do wonders with it. The Firefox toolbar contains the search engine box, wherein you can keep a number of search engines such as Google, Wikipedia, and Yahoo. You can use Foxmarks, an extension for Firefox to store all your bookmarks online and you can
retrieve them from anywhere else. You can find all the add-ons for Firefox by just clicking on the ‘Get Themes’ link or ‘Get Extensions’ link in the Add-ons window.
The tab browsing feature of Firefox is its most appreciated feature. If many tabs are opened, instead of cramping the tab
bar, it hides the surplus bar indicated by an arrow. Also, if you close a tab by mistake, you can retrieve it by pressing the hot keys [Ctri] + [Shift]+ [T]
How to open new tabs directly next to the tab in current page
March 4th, 2008 by admin | 1 Comment | Filed in Browsers, Tips & Tricks, internetFirefox always opens new tabs on the extreme right when you click on a link. You have to toggle between topics that are related to each other if several tabs are open at the same times. Or you have to shift the tabs. Both methods are not satisfactory.
The free add-on ‘Tab Control’ changes the behavior of the browser in such a way that it opens the new tabs to the immediate right of the tab in use. The ‘http://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/1480’ link directs you to the download page. Here, click on ‘Install’ to open the ‘Software Installation’ dialog box. Click on ‘Install now’ to start the setup. Select ‘Restart Firefox’ to activate the tool. (more…)
How can you protect your configuration settings from being accessed by others
March 4th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Laptops, Tips & Tricks, windowsYou use a computer with several user accounts. You want to ensure that only you, as administrator, can change important browser settings such as configuration of the proxy. However, users should be able to make changes in the general settings.
The key to this is a configuration file, in which you block selected options and which you then encode online.
Get back the original backup time from your laptop batteries
Determining options concerned: Type ‘about config’ in the address bar of the browser and find the entries you want to block for other system users in the list. You cannot do without the configuration of the Internet proxy set by you in the example. The line ‘network, proxy, type’ sees to it that Firefox uses the proxy. Therefore, you have to ensure that this line cannot be changed. (more…)

How to protect your system from new super cookies
March 4th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Browsers, Tips & Tricks, internet, windowsSuper cookies have started featuring on the menu cards of many websites, some of which are dubious in character. What are they? How can you protect your system from these elements or mange them?
In addition to the classic cookies that are only up to four kilo bytes in size, thre are much bigger Flash cookies and voracious domain memory objects (the so-called DOM cookies are also new). They grab up to five megabytes of space on the hard disk of your PC to store the information of an external website. Firefox 2.0 is the first browser to support these new standard memory objects. The cookie management of the browser does not display these objects along with the stored data, which means that they cannot be deleted. (more…)
How to allow specific JavaScript to different browsers while surfing
March 3rd, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Browsers, Tips & Tricks, internetMany a times important web sites are dependent on JavaScripts even though it’s safe to surf without these scripts in the browser. But continuously adjusting the browser is painful. How do I avoid it?
Specify the web sites, for which the browser can use JavaScript. All the other unknown scripts should be automatically blocked. As thebasic equipment of the surfing program does not provide a corresponding configuration option, use the plug – in ‘No Script’ (you can get it free). You can find it on https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/722/
INSTALLATION: open the web site in the browser and click on the installation link. Gove the necessary installation permission by clicking on ‘Install now’. To complete the installation, close Firefox and restart it.
PRESENTING : take care that JavaScript is generally allowed in the browser otherwise all the scripts are blocked irrespective of the settings in NoScript. You can control this via ‘Tools| Options’. Click on the category ‘ Content and select ‘Enable JavaScript’.
CONFIGURATION: The extentsion ‘NoScript’ immediately blocks all JavaScripts and sends a notification regarding the same at the lower right margin of the window. Besides, a symbol in the status bar of the browser continuously shows you the current settings for the opened web site. To change this configuration, click on the icon that further shows hidden icons at the bottom window corner. Now the menu asks you about all individual scripts and also whether you would want to allow the current domain permanently or only temporarily for the current session. This menu also facilitates access to other settings on ‘NoScript’. In the ‘General’ tab, you will see the list of authorized domains and you can process these manually. Using he ‘Export’ button, save your own configuration in a text file which can be later imported, for example, after re-installation or on a new computer. You can easily reconstruct your script installation in this manner.
