Secure your data by encrption
SECURE YOUR STUFF Data security should always be given prime importance, especially if it is confidential. The standard procedure to secure data would be to either hide it or rename the file extension. But the smart way to do this is to encrypt it. An ordinary home user with a few personal documents, however, might not need a full-fledged encryption application for the purpose. Therefore, a freeware like CryptoExpert Lite 2006 would be the ideal encryption tool for such a user. It uses an on-the-fly encryption system to encrypt and decrypt data using the CAST 128 encryption mode. The data can only be accessed once the user logs in.
The installation of CryptoExpert Lite 2006 is simple; the main interface is quite self-explanatory. Most of the tools are represented using large icons. To encrypt data, you need to create a container in which data to be secured is stored. You can create multiple containers, but only of 20 MB each. Once you provide the path wherein the container is created, it selects the encryption mode. You also need to specify an eight-character long password for the container. The password can also be entered using the in-built virtual keyboard.

Once the container is created, you can mount it using the very application and your computer recognizes it as a drive. you can use this virtual drive like any another drive, storing documents, images and other files securely. Once you are done with the storing of data in the container, CryptoExpert Lite 2006 dismounts it, effectively ensuring your data cannot be read from or written to. CryptoExpert Lite 2006 also provides additional features such as integration of e-mail files, allowing you to encrypt your emails. The secure file deletion feature allows you to delete files so that they cannot be recovered.
Replete with so many features, CryptoExpert is an excellent software for first-time user as it provides basic features with good functionality. But it could do with providing more encryption metnc to impart flexibilty to power users.
