IMI and Sony come together to curb piracy in India
The Indian Music Industry (IMI) and Sony Playstation have decided to come together and step up their drive against the piracy of game software in India. Together, they conducted their first ever raid in a Mumbai suburb and seized two Sony Playstations and 230 game discs.Piracy in India has increased due to easy accessibility to the Internet and broadband. As much as 90 percent of the games sold in India are pirated. This is a clear concern for the industry that claims to lose millions of dollars to piracy each year.
The availability of pirated games on websites and peer-to-peer networks has made accessibility to pirated games relatively widespread. Even with more international brands entering the Indian market and prices dropping, piracy rates remain high.
