* Windows key + Left: docks current window to the left side of the screen.

* Windows key + Right: docks current window to the right side of the screen.

* Windows key + Up: maximizes and/or restores foreground window.

* Windows key + Down: minimizes active window.

* If you want a more Vista-esque taskbar rather than the superbar (why anyone would revert is beyond me), right-click the Taskbar, go to Properties, check the ‘Use small icons’ option, then change the “Taskbar Buttons” option to ‘Never combine.’

* Windows 7 now burns ISO files themselves instead of making users grapple with third-party applications.

* For those lucky people with a multi-monitor setup, Windows + SHIFT + Left (or Right) will shift a window from monitor to monitor.

* Gone is the “Add Font” dialog. It’s been replaced with a much nicer system. Download a font and double-click it (you’ll be greeted with the familar font window, but you should notice it now has a ‘Install’ button).

* Windows 7 now includes Gabriola. This is an elaborate display typeface that takes advantage of OpenType layout to create a variety of stylistic sets.

* If you press Windows + 1, it will create a new instance of the first icon in the task bar. This is handy if you do a lot of coding and need to open several instances of a program.

* If you right-click on a Taskbar icon, it brings up the much talked about Jump List. However, the same can be done by clicking with the left mouse button and dragging the icon “out” (so to speak). This was specifically designed for touch-enabled computers, such as your lovely HP TouchSmart PC.

* To run a program as an Administrator, it’s now as easy as holding CTRL + SHIFT when you open the application.

* With Windows 7, you can now create a ‘System Repair Disc.’ This is a CD bootable version of Windows 7 that includes the command prompt and a suite of system tools. Very handy for those really tough spots (which, with this still in beta, could be just around the corner). To get to this, simply open the Start Menu and type: “system repair disc” in the search field.

The vulnerability was found in a program used in the popular web browser to play video on computers running with Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 operating systems, Microsoft said in a warning posted online.

“An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain the same user rights as the local user,” the software giant warned in a security bulletin. “We are aware of attacks attempting to exploit the vulnerability.”

Microsoft said it was working with partners to patch the weakness in ActiveX Video Control involved in capturing, recording or playing video and is also a main component of Windows Media Center.

Microsoft advised users to deactivate ActiveX Video Control until a fix is available.

“When the ActiveX control is used in Internet Explorer, the control may corrupt the system state in such a way that an attacker could run arbitrary code,” the Redmond, Washington-based company said.

“Microsoft is currently working to develop a security update for Windows to address this vulnerability.”

Hackers can take advantage of the vulnerability when Internet users visit websites that have been booby trapped with malicious code. Unsuspecting computer users may get emails enticing them to visit hazardous websites.

Attackers taking advantage of the vulnerability could install programs; view, change or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights, according to Microsoft.

In 2010, Windows 7 will account for 49.5% of Windows operating systems bought by cor porations, or nearly 58 million copies, says IDC. Those numbers dwarf Vista, which will account for 15% of the 2010 Windows that year (18 million units). Windows 7 advance sales have been tearing up Amazon.com’s best seller list since the OS hit its pre-sale stage more than a week ago.
To characterize how fast Vista will fade, Windows XP, Vista’s predecessor, will account for nearly 35%, or nearly 41 million units, in 2010 even though the OS, which shipped at the end of operating systems Microsoft ships 2001, will be a year into its extended support phase. In 2011, Windows 7 will jump to nearly 75% of units shipped while Vista will slip to .5%.
IDC says that Vista will drop com pletely off the map in 2012, while XP will still account for 15 million units in 2012 and 8.4 million in 2013. Those units will be users who buy Windows 7 anddowngradetheOStoXPviarights in their Software Assurance contracts, says Al Gillen, the IDC analyst who tabulated the Windows OS forecasts.
“What happens is Windows 7 comes along and it immediately co-ops Vista’s momentum. Vista momentum pretty directly shifts over to Windows 7,” says Gillen. That Windows 7 momentum will translate in 2013 to the. new OS accounting for 95% of the operat ing systems Microsoft sells to businesses. That percentage is up from 90% forecast for 2012.
“At some point users are going to want to move forward,” says Gillen. “All you need is demand for one appli cation designed for Windows 7 and you can no longer use XP.”
Gillen says users are going to get “trapped” between two products [ and 7], and once that happens it makes more sense to go forward not backward.”

“The enterprise application services consulting academy will inculcate the right engagement behaviour at an early stage for improving customer satisfaction,” the company said in a statement here.

The academy offers a six-month certification programme to Wipro employees providing consulting solutions to clients. The programme combines classroom sessions with learning at the client workspace.

“The academy is a key initiative to align our workforce with the business objectives of clients, some of whom are involved as faculty and guides to pre-assigned employees during the training,” Wipro vice-president for enterprise application services Sangita Singh said.

The programme will be conducted by Wipro’s corporate human resources development in conjunction with the enterprise application services business unit.

“We plan to certify about 300 consultants globally in this fiscal, with the first batch of 60 by September,” Singh noted.

Lauding Wipro for making strategic investments in consulting despite the tech meltdown, Viacom chief information officer Joe Simon said the academy would be a win-win proposition for the vendor as well as the client.

As Wipro’s largest market, the US accounts for about 60 percent of its global revenues.

Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), under the Department of Information Technology, the apex body that monitors Internet security threats in the country, said a new worm ‘Koobface’ is propagating through social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, hi5, Bebo and Twitter.

CERT said the virus is spreading by sending spam containing a message with a link to a video to people on these sites.

The virus is particularly dangerous as it uses the infected machine to target other systems and distribute additional malware, generate ‘pay per click’ advertising revenue and steal sensitive data, CERT said on its website.

The Koobface works by taking control of social networking sites and spamming friends with messages containing links to sites that lead to malware traps.

Once the link is clicked, it redirects the user to a website designed to mimic YouTube (but is actually named YuoTube), which asks the user to install an executable (.EXE) file to be able to watch the video.

Security firm Trend Micro said social networks such as Facebook and Twitter have become prime targets of cyber criminals due to easy access of personal information on these sites.

As more and more people are communicating through social networks, they are fast becoming more viable platform for criminals to carry on with their fraudulent activities, it added.

Solution:

To fix this warning you just need to disable the Windows security center service.

Below are 3 easy steps to do the same:

Step1: Go to Start > Run
Step2: Type msconfig and press enter. This will open system configuration utility as shown below.

security center

Step3: Go to Services tab, un-check the Security Center service. ( BEWARE: Do not change any other service settings, as it can mess with your windows xp and it may never boot again)

Step4: Press Ok and restart your computer.

Note: You should disable the security center service only when you are using some third party anti-virus or firewall, otherwise it may really risk your computer’s security.

I recently installed a game and I want to play offline, but it tries to connect to the Internet every now and then. There are some times when some applications like games ,software’s installed on your system try to connect to Internet for various reasons. This becomes very annoying specially when you don’t know how to block it.Don’t worry here is the way you can fix it.

Solution:

The solution to this type of problem is different depending whether you have Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or Windows XP without Service Pack 2.

For Windows XP with Service Pack 2

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. Click Windows Firewall.

3. In the Windows Firewall dialog box, click the Exceptions tab, and then click Add Program

4. Now locate the program executable which tries to connect to Internet.

5. After you select your program, click OK.

6.Uncheck the check box for the program you just added if you don’t want it to connect to Internet.

For Windows XP without Service Pack 2:

In this case we prefer you can install a third party tool like Zone Alarm or free avast home edition which comes with free firewall if you don’t want to buy any firewall.

This will Fix the trouble.
