This happens many times while logging in to Gmail when we get message “Gmail cannot not open in standard mode, try basic html mode”.

Why Gmail got hanged in standard mode while opening?

Few of the most common reason for this problem are:

1. Cookies or temporary internet files.
2. Bad/slow internet connection speed.Solution:
You can fix first problem by clearing up your cookies and temporary files. Below is the step by step procedure to clean old cookies and temporary internet files for Microsoft Internet explorer and Mozilla Firefox as these two are the most commonly used browsers.

Clearing cookies and temporary files for Microsoft internet explorer:

1. Open Microsoft internet explorer
2. Go to File Menu >>Tools>>Internet Options
3. Click the general Tab>>click Delete cookies and temporary files. Fixed.

Or

Go to Start >> RUN >> type “%temp%” without any quotes

New window open with all temporary files. Delete all files.

Clearing cookies and temporary files for Mozilla Firefox:

1. Open Mozilla Firefox
2. Go to Tool Menu >>Clear private data.
3. This will show a small window, on this window check the following three options
-Cache
-Cookies
-Authenticated sessions
4. Click the button “Clear Private Data Now”.

Even after this if the problem remains, then check whether the internet connection is healthy. Slow or bad internet connection also creates problems for Gmail standard mode.In such case you can get you internet connection fixed or keep using basic HTML.

To accelerate your computer, regularly defragment the contents of the system hard disk. However, during the defragment process, important elements such as the swap file are skipped, resulting in the slowing down of the computer.
Windows and the current defragmenters cannot access the files which have been exclusively opened by the system. Therefore, the registry data and the swap file are usually ignored during the optimization. However, these files are used frequently and they take up a large amount of space. Therefore, their fragmenting slows down the system significantly. But then again, there are specialists to solve every problem. The tool ‘Pagedefrag’ uses the start phase of the PCs to defragment the registry and swap file. During the start phase. Windows can access them.
After unpacking the zip archive, the tool can be readied for use by just calling ‘pagedefrag.exe’ without any further installation processes. It first shows how many clusters occupy the respective system files and how ‘fragmented’ they are. Besides the swap file, and the branches of the Registry, the tool also processes event protocols as well as the stand –by mode file, its size corresponds to the quantity of the installed main memory.
APPLICATION
For one time execution, select the option ‘Defragment at next boot’ and click on ‘OK’. Then, restart the computer. While booting, the tool completes its task and creates a status report. You can check the progress by calling Pagedefrag in Windows again and checking the actual status in the Pagedefrag dialog box. This kind of deframentation must be repeated from time to time. You will be rewarded with remarkably shorter booting and shut down times for your computer.
AUTOMATION
To automate the process, select the option ‘Dufragment every boot’ in the Pagedefrag dialog box, change the value for ‘Defrag abort countdown’ to ‘0’ and confirm with ‘OK’. In future, ‘pagedefrag’ checks the status every time the system starts and then optimizes the files if required. The check takes just under a second.
If you do not wish to run the check on every boot, you can also automate the execution with the Task Planner. Use command ‘pagedefrag –o-t 0’ in the command prompt for that. It is used for one – time defragmentation on booting the next time.

Enabling remote computers, many users still rely on the Telnet protocol. But Microsoft does not seem to have integrated any compatible client in Vista.
Even Vista has an integrated Telnet- Client, but it is deactivated by default because of stringent security guidelines set to ensure that no communication channels are opened unnecessarily. This is how you can activates it: double click on ‘Programs and functions’ in Control Panel and then click on ‘Turn Windows features on or off’ on the left margin. Click ‘Continue’ to confirm the query of the User Account Control. In the following list, search for the entry ‘Telnet- Client’ and select the preceding checkbox. Confirm the change with ‘OK’ and wait for the configuration of the systems. You can then call up the client as usual.
ATTENTION: Take care that you are actually activating the client and not the Talnet- Server by mistake. Otherwise, any external PC will be able to access your computer through the protocol. Because of the missing encryption, Telnet is a security risk on the Internet. You can use the comparatively safer alternatives such as SSH or RDP.

The time- consuming analysis can be permanently stopped by an intervention in the Registry. Start the Registry Editor and browse to the ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches’ key. Select the sub- key ‘Compress old files’ and create an REG file through ‘file| Export’ as a backup copy to restore. Then, delete the entire entry. After restarting the system, there is no more anlaysis os that you can reach the settings of the data carrier cleaning old files’ no longer exists in the dialog. If you want to undo the change, execute the created REG file by double- clicking on it and confirm the acceptance of the values in the Registry by clicking on ‘Yes’.

The new operating system is optically quite impressive with every series. But its interface can be tuned further – with tools from Redmond.
DreamScene is used for animating the desktop background. This program is one of the free tools offered by Microsoft for the Ultimate version of Windows Vista
Setup: To install DreamScene, connect to the Internet, click on ‘Security’ in Control Panel and then click on ‘Windowss Update’. IF you have activated the classic view of the Control Panel, just double- click on ‘Widows Update’. Then select ‘Search for Updates’ and ‘Display Available Updates’. In the ‘ Windows DreamScene –preview’ option and click on ‘Install’. The installation is possible from a normal user account as well. However, you must have the administration password because you will have to enter it to clear security queries. Windows will download DreamScene and install it automatically Click on ‘Restart now’ to complete the installation. To select an animated background, right – click on the free space on the desktop and select ‘Personalize’. Then, click on ‘Desktop Background’ and open the drop down box near ‘Location’ and choose Windows Dream Scene Content’. Or click ;’Browse’ and then under the installation directory of Windows, select the directory of Windows, select the directory’\ web\WindowsDreamScene’. After the Setup of ‘DreamScene’, you will get an animated sample background. Select it and finally click on ‘OK’. You can also install the ‘Contents packet for Windows DreamScene’. This extra contains more animated wallpapers. In addition, you can use every other video file as a screen saver; for example., a slide show from your last vacation that you have saved in MPG format. Your creativity sees no bounds. But be careful : hectic film sequences are annoying distracting.

Windows displays a list of the most frequently used applications on the Start menu. However, you always start some applications using a link on the desktop or from the quick start list. Therefore, your symbols replace other useful programs in the start menu.
Using a Registry entry, decide which application should not appear in the Start menu. Under Vista, log in as administrator and open ‘Start| All Programs| Accessories| Run. Enter ‘regedit.exe’. press [Enter], and start the Registry Editor. Click ‘Continue’ if asked by the User Account Control {UAC}. Under XP on, click ‘Start|Run’. Type ‘regidit’, and press [Enter] to open the Registry Editor. No security query is asked. In the tree structure of the editor, browse to the ‘HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications’ key on the left pane. Here, select the sub-keys for the applications that you do not want to appear on the start list. Finally, right – click anywhere on the right pane of the Registry Editor and select ‘New|Strong value’. Overwrite the name suggested by Windows with ‘NoStartPage’. You do not need to assign any value to the character string – its existence alone has the desired effect. After you restart Windows, the program will not appear in the list. If you later want to consider the program as one of the most frequently used applications, deleted the ‘NoStartPage’ string.

When several documents are opened in Excel or Powerpoint, an additional document icon shows in the taskbar and it appears while toggling using the shortcut key {Alt}+ {Tab}. How do I get rid of this feature?
You can change this feature in the concerned Office applications by doing the following.
• Click on ‘Tools|Options’ and deactivate the option ‘Windows in taskbar’ in the ‘ View’ tab in the ‘Show’ section. After that, Windows displays a single icon for each application in the task bar. However, with this configuration, toggle between several documents is possible only from the menu command ‘Windows’, and no longer with {Alt}+{Tab}.

This setting is not applicable to the entire Office applications. If required, repeat this method for other programs of the packet. However, in Word 200, the developers have not integrated this option.
Note: If you open several applications in Windows, the taskbar becomes crowded. To add to that, the Microsoft Office application from Version 2000 onwards ( except Microsoft Outlook) place an extra icon in the taskbar for each opened window. You open three documents in Excel or Powerpoint and four icons are displayed in the taskbar. The additional icon represents the application window of the last active document, when can be very irritating while toggling between opened files.

Windows Media player maintains a history of files that have already been played. This way other PC users can copy my playlists. How can I prevent it?
The process is quite simple:
• To prevent the Media Player from re-collecting information regarding playlists and displaying it to others who have access to the same PC, follow the steps mentioned below.
• Go to ‘Tools|Options’ in Media Player and switch to the ‘Privacy’ tab than click on ‘Clear History’.
• Next, deactivate the option ‘Save file and URL history in the player’ and confirm by clicking on ‘Apply’ and ‘OK’.
This prevents creation of previously played file/URL lists in future within Media Player. Now, what remains is the list saved in the Windows start menu Documents section.
• Clear that by right- clicking on the ‘Start’ button and selecting the context option ‘Properties’.
• Now click the ‘Start menu radio buttion’ and then on the ‘Customize’ option. In the next dialog window, click on ‘Advanced’ and then on the ‘Clear List’ option under ‘Recent documents’.
• You may also choose to deactivate the option ‘List my most recently opened documents’ and confirm with ‘OK’. This option will set the system to not list your recently opened files or documents.

Tthe dialog ‘Status’ for network connections provides information about the number of received and sent packets. However, while doing so. Windows does not specify whether errors have occurred while transferring data. How do I find out if errors occur during the transfer?
An entry in the Registry helps in displaying important information for the error search. This is how you go about it.
• Start the Registry Edition and navigate and navigate to the ‘HEY_LOCAL_MECHINE\SYSTEMS\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\Connection’key.
• Next, create a sub key ‘StatMon’ via ‘Edit | New | Key’ and in that create another entry ‘ShowLanErrors’ via ‘Edit | New | DWORD value’. Double click on it and set its ‘Value Data’ to ‘1’. Now close the registry.
• Then open ‘Network Connections’ in the control panel and double click on ‘Local Area Connection’. A status dialog appears where you will see ‘Errors’ in the ‘Activity’ area under ‘Packets’ with details about incorrect TCP/IP packets that were sent or received.

Some programs tend to set their work superficially and use further resources in the Task Manager as a process. Despite that, after a system crash and in the absence of an alternative, I have to eventually fall back on these programs and end the process laboriously via the Task Manager. Is there an easy alternative.
The ‘taskkill’ command can perform the same functions as that of the Task Manager. The feature is however available only with Windows XP Professional.
This command can be called through a command prompt. You can even program a batch file if you frequently ‘End’ a useful but unstable program regularly. By just double clicking, the rather difficult process disappears into thin air.
• Use ‘takskill /IM msaccess.exe’ to end the access process with ‘taskkill’ on the basis of its map name ‘msaccess .exe.’. but be careful. If several processes exist with the same map name, the command ends all processes without any inquiry. Proceed accurately with the parameter ‘/F1’. This parameter offers the option of describing the process you are looking for by specifying a special filter. ‘Windows title’. With its help you can identify a process based on its Windows title.
• Example: If you want to end the ‘notepad.exe’ process with the Windows title ‘alex.txt – Notepad’, then use
‘taskkill/F1 “WINDOWTITLE” eq alex.txt – notepad’.
Windows delivers further parameters and information regarding the killers command with ‘taskkill/?’
