Displaying active contents like activeX – objects or Java pro without errors

March 3, 2008 · Posted in Browsers, Tips & Tricks, internet · Comment

While browsing a web site with active contents like activeX – objects or Java programs, images are not displayed or it becomes impossible to sen any form. How do I solve this program?
Such  problems can arise when  the web site contains compressed scripts. The Internet Explorer can only partially decompress the script after it has been downloaded. The possible reason for this is there is very little storage space in the folder for temporary internet files as a result of which the computed script does not run correctly. To solve this problem:
•    First update the website completely using the key- combination [Ctrl]+ [F5]. If the problem still persists. Open Internet Explorer and go to ‘Tools| Internet Options’. Next click on ‘Delete files’ in the ‘Temporary Internet files’ tab. Then activate the option ‘Delete all offline contents’ and then click on ‘OK’. Now if you surf your desired web sites, it should show all the active contents correctly.

How to allow specific JavaScript to different browsers while surfing

March 3, 2008 · Posted in Browsers, Tips & Tricks, internet · Comment

Many a times important web sites are dependent on JavaScripts even though it’s safe to surf without these scripts in the browser. But continuously adjusting the browser is painful. How do I avoid it?
Specify the web sites, for which the browser can use JavaScript. All the other unknown scripts should be automatically blocked. As thebasic equipment of the surfing program does not provide a corresponding configuration option, use the plug – in ‘No Script’  (you can get it free). You can find it on https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/722/
INSTALLATION: open the web site in the browser and click on the installation link. Gove the necessary installation permission by clicking on ‘Install now’. To complete the installation, close Firefox  and restart it.
PRESENTING : take care that JavaScript is generally allowed in the browser otherwise  all the scripts are blocked irrespective of the settings in NoScript. You can control this via ‘Tools| Options’. Click on the category ‘ Content and select ‘Enable JavaScript’.
CONFIGURATION: The extentsion ‘NoScript’  immediately blocks all JavaScripts and sends a notification regarding the same at the lower right margin of the window. Besides, a symbol in the status bar of the browser continuously shows you the current settings for the  opened web site. To change this configuration, click on the icon that further shows hidden icons at the  bottom window corner. Now the menu asks you about  all individual scripts and also whether you would want to allow the current domain permanently or only temporarily for the current session. This menu  also facilitates access to other settings on ‘NoScript’. In the ‘General’ tab, you will see the list of authorized domains  and you  can process these manually. Using he ‘Export’ button, save your own configuration in a text file which can be later imported, for example, after re-installation or on a new computer. You can easily reconstruct your script installation in this manner.

How to transfer filter rules to other computers by using Thunderbird

March 3, 2008 · Posted in Browsers, Tips & Tricks, internet · Comment

It takes time to set e- mail filter rules for Thunderbird. If one has to set more than one computer, then it is irritating to repeat the same steps for configuring the filter. What is the easier way out?
Thunderbird saves all filter rules  together in the file ‘msgfilterrules.dat’ in your profile folder. You can take  a backup this file. Your rules, for instance, are then immediately available again after reinstallation. Besides, you can transfer the file to another computer and after a small adjustment even set it for other mail accounts. Read more

Tthe dialog ‘Status’ for network connections provides information about the number of received and sent packets. However, while doing so. Windows does not specify whether errors have occurred while transferring data. How do I find out if errors occur during the transfer?
An entry in the Registry helps in displaying important information for the error search. This is how you go about it.
•    Start the Registry Edition and navigate and navigate to the ‘HEY_LOCAL_MECHINE\SYSTEMS\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\Connection’key.
•    Next, create a sub key ‘StatMon’ via ‘Edit | New | Key’ and in that create another entry ‘ShowLanErrors’ via ‘Edit | New | DWORD value’. Double click on it and set its ‘Value Data’ to ‘1’. Now close the registry.
•    Then open ‘Network Connections’ in the control panel and double click on ‘Local Area Connection’. A status dialog appears where you will see ‘Errors’ in the ‘Activity’ area under ‘Packets’ with details about  incorrect TCP/IP packets that were sent or received.

Features of Free Download Manager

Free Download Manager has been gaining popularity for being a minimal and clean download manager that has some really useful features built into it.
Limit The Speed For A Single  Download
Speed  limiting is a feature available in almost all download managers, but what makes FDM unique is its ability to limit speeds for one particular download. When you add a new download by selecting Downloads> Create new download, click on the Advanced  button in the window. Click the Limit traffic  checkbox and set the maximum  bandwidth you want the download to use.
Check File Integrity
People normally use download managers to download files that usually would take much longer than five to 10 minutes. Some huge downloads like Linux distribution ISOs come along with a MDS checksum.
Download files can be verified using checksum values value- an alphanumeric value that can be used to verify whether the download was completed without corruption. Use the drop-down and choose the algorithm used to check the file. Under Checksum, copy and paste the value provided by the download site or developer. Click Check and you will get a confirmation on whether the download has any problems.
Remove The Advertisements
FDM  has a small advertisement bar at the right top of the window, and that might turn some people off. You should know that it can be disabled by simply right- clicking on it and clicking Hide.
Better Browsing Speeds While Downloading
FDM gives you the option to use one of three bandwidth priority levels- Light, Medium, and Heavy. You can switch to any of them by pressing (ctrl)+(1)/ (2)/(3) respectively. FDM even has an option that allows it to detect any browsing activity and reduce its download rates immediately. To enable this option, go to Options>Download option>Network tab. Check the box called Decrease traffic usage on browser activity. You can use the radio button to choose whether you want the bandwidth usage level to drop by one, or set it to Light mode.
 Adding Comments To Filenames
Some of us need to add comments for downloaded files to avoid confusion due to odd naming convetions. FDM can rename your downloaded file with the comment appended to it. To be able to set this option, you first enter a comment to a download that’s about to begin. Select Downloads>Create new download. Enter, in the Comment text field, the text you want as the comment. Then select Advanced>Miscellaneous and click the box called Append comment to the file name when done. Click Apply and then OK.
